An invitation to Shorter College
Shorter College, founded in 1886, by the Africain Methodist Epsicopal Church, is the oldest institution of higher learning in North Little Rock, Arkansas. For many years Shorter has maintained its status as a liberal arts college.
The College Complex is located on three-and one-half square blocks of land. The campus complex includes 8 buildings, 2 of which were constructed in the last 10 years. There is ample space for parking, outdoors activities and future construction.
Shorter is located in the Little Rock/North Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) known as the Greater Little Rock Area with a population of more that 527,000. It has long been ranked among the top 100 U.S. Markets. Shorter's location was considerably enhanced by the building of the $ 71 million Alltel Arena within five blocks of the college. Shorter is just across the Arkansas River from the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, now under construction. It is accessible via Interstates 30 and 40, and public transportation.
Shorter College is home to students who come from the cities of Little Rock, North Little Rock and surrounding areas. The student body is diverse. The college caters to traditional students who are recent graduates, as well as non-traditional students who are returning to school after many years. A significant number of the students come for upgrading skill or a specific course.
